Feta cheese and fresh mint make this recipe for turkey burgers one of the best you'll ever taste.

Tired of hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill? Looking for something a little different? A little more special, but just as easy? These turkey burgers are the answer. They're full of flavor, yet as simple to make as your average burgers.

Most recipes for turkey burgers center around traditional Thanksgiving flavors -- sage, rosemary, cranberry sauce, etc. This turkey burger recipe incorporates the flavors of the Mediterranean with feta cheese, fresh mint and a cucumber yogurt sauce. You could almost substitute these turkey burgers for the lamb in a gyro.

This recipe is adapted from a Good Housekeeping magazine recipe for Greek Chicken Burgers. To make these burgers more appealing to kids, serve them on mini hamburger buns rather than in pita pockets. And put the cucumber yogurt sauce on the side.

These turkey burgers are delicious served with sweet potato fries or roasted green beans, a Greek salad and Lindt chocolate chip cookies for dessert.

Cut off the top third of each pita and place in a food processor or blender. Pulse until the mixture forms bread crumbs. Place in a large bowl. Add the ground turkey, feta cheese, egg, and half of the chopped mint leaves. Add the salt and pepper and mix with your hands until well-combined. Shape into eight to ten mini burgers, approximately 3/4-inch thick.

Heat oil in a cast iron grill pan or a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place the mini burgers in the skillet and cook, 5 to 6 minutes on each side, or until burgers are cooked through. Allow the burgers to rest five minutes before serving.

Meanwhile, stir together the remaining mint leaves, cucumber and non-fat yogurt in a small bowl. Fill each pita with two burgers. Top with the cucumber yogurt sauce.

Optional: Add chopped tomatoes and shredded iceberg lettuce to make these burgers even tastier.

Makes 4 servings.
