Top Chef is a huge hit. In this interview, Judge and Chef Tom Colicchio tells us what went on behind the scenes last season and what to expect in season 2.
In the first part of my interview with Top Chef Judge Tom Colicchio, he shared that Tiffany came very close to winning last season. "If she didn't do five dishes at the end, she would've won," Colicchio says. By contrast, Colicchio felt Dave was lucky to make it to the final three. Still, he also says Dave was portrayed unfairly. "He wasn't crying all the time," Colicchio says. In fact, Colicchio adds, all of the candidates were under enormous pressure. They're not allowed TV, radio, phones or books. They're working long hours, and they're very stressed. Surprises for the Top ChefOne of the biggest surprises for Colicchio was how strongly people reacted to Stephen last season. "We're not allowed to interact with the contestants at all," Colicchio says. "So we had no idea how arrogant Stephen came off in the taping. In fact, when we threw him off, the crew broke into applause. We said, 'What's that about?'" What to Expect in Season 2 of Top ChefAccording to Colicchio, we can expect "a lot of drama and a lot of craziness" in season 2. They spent a month taping in Los Angeles this summer and will go to Hawaii to tape the finale in November. So at this point, nobody knows who the winner is. As for the winner from last season, Colicchio says he does run into Harold a lot, since they both work in New York and attend many of the same functions. But Harold still hasn't opened his own restaurant yet. "He's still looking for locations. It's a long process," Colicchio says. I asked Colicchio to share a healthy recipe with us that any home cook could make. He gave me his recipe for Strawberries with Balsamic Vinegar. Try it -- you won't be disappointed.
