There are hundreds of different varieties of citrus fruit when all the citrus types are considered. Oranges have the most varieties. Like many other fruits, there is a lot of cross breeding between different types of citrus. One of the most popular hybrids is the Minneola Tangelo, a combination of a grapefruit and a tangerine. Citrus is used in a variety of different ways. They’re consumed raw, in salads, all kinds of deserts, in juices and every type of cooking imaginable. Citrus is also used in a variety of alcoholic drinks as mixes, from screwdrivers to sangria. The following nutritional values are based on 100 grams of raw citrus for the purpose of comparing the different types and varieties of citrus. Listed daily values (DV) are based on a 2,000-calorie diet. All listed values are based on raw citrus, without peels. Citrus has no cholesterol and is a good source of Vitamin C. Citrus contains citric acid and some people may have intolerance to the effects of citric acid. There’s no doubt that citrus is a good source of vitamin C, low in calories, no fat or cholesterol.
