There are literally hundred of grape varieties. What are the nutritional values of grapes? Find out the availability of table grape varieties throughout the year.

Grapes are considered berries and table grapes refer to the type of grapes that are generally consumed raw. Different varieties of grape are grown for different purposes. Grapes are grown for raw consumption (table grapes), for grape juice, jelly or jam and of course for the production of wine.

Grapes grown for the production of wine have many more varieties than grapes produced for the table. Generally table grapes are not produced for wine because of the lower sugar content. Sugar is an import ingredient in the fermentation process of wine.

Types and Varieties of Table Grapes

California produces over 90% of the fresh table grapes in the U.S., with over 60 varieties of table grapes. The average consumption of table grapes in the U.S. is about 8 pounds per person. According to the California Table Grape Commission, the following grape varieties are the top selling grapes.

Red Table Grapes Varieties

  • Flame Seedless: Medium to large round seedless berries, available May to December.
  • Crimson Seedless: Medium to large cylindrical seedless berries, available August to January.
  • Vintage Red: Medium to large oval seedless berries, available September to December.
  • Sunset Seedless: Large oval seedless berries, available September to November.
  • Sugarnineteen: Very large oval seedless berries, available September to December.
  • Scarlet Royal: Large oval seedless berries, available July to November.
  • Ruby Seedless: Medium oval seedless berries, available August to December.
  • Red Globe: Very large round seedless berries, available July to January

Green Table Grape Varieties

  • Pristine: Very large elongated seedless berries, available September to December.
  • Princess: Very large cylindrical seedless berries, available June to November.
  • Thompson Seedless: Medium to large cylindrical seedless berries, available June to December.
  • Sugraone: Large elongated seedless berries, available May to August.

Blue-Black Table Grape Varieties

  • Autumn Royal: Large oval seedless berries, available August to January.
  • Summer Royal: Medium round seedless berries, available June to October.
  • Sugarthriteen: Large elongated seedless berries, available June to September.

Nutritional Value of Table Grapes Thompson Seedless - 1 cup (151 grams)

  • Table grape are relatively low in calories with 104 and total fat of 0 grams
  • Table grapes have 27 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of dietary fiber and 23 grams of sugar.
  • Grapes have no cholesterol and contain antioxidants that help support a healthy heart by reducing bad LDL cholesterol and reducing inflammation.
  • Table grapes are not a good source of protein with 1 gram.
  • Table grapes and are very low in sodium with 3 milligrams
  • Table grapes are good source of Vitamin C with 27% of the daily value and Vitamin K with 28% of the daily value in a 2,000-calorie diet.

Even though the nutritional values listed are for Thompson Seedless, other table grape varieties are very similar in nutritional value. The only negative nutritional value in table grapes is that most of the calories come from sugar. Because of the low amount of fat content and high amounts of Vitamins C and K, grapes are a good addition to a balanced healthy diet. Because of the ideal growing conditions in California, table grapes are available year round.
