Apple-picking is one of my all-time favorite outings with kids.
Oh, forget the kids. I just like going apple-picking. There's something about that first hint of cool fall air and the sweet, crisp taste of apples. Mmmm. Throw in some hot mulled cider and a hayride, and I'm in heaven!
When I come home, naturally, I have to make my famous honey-roasted applesauce. With just a touch of brown sugar and honey, it gets most of its sweetness from the apples' natural sugars, which deepen during the roasting process.
Of course, the kids love caramel apple dip. And taffy apple salad always manages to make its way to the table during apple season, too. Chunks of apples are tossed with salty peanuts in a Cool Whip dressing. It's a real crowd-pleaser.
