Hey, I love to cook as much as anybody. But sometimes when I'm having a party, especially one where the food isn't the highlight, as with the Super Bowl, I just want to go for convenience.
Then again, I'm not willing to sacrifice quality, or pay an arm and leg for munchies that people are too busy screaming at the TV to notice.
Where to go? Trader Joe's, of course.
You can find three different kinds of hummus, ten different kinds of gourmet tortilla chips and a bevy of salsas, from haberno lime to peach. Cheese choices are plentiful and high-quality. And there are dozens of different crackers and flatbreads to go with them.
Want a little something hot to nosh on? No problem. The frozen foods section is stacked with delectable party nibbles, from spanikopita to crab puffs and mini empanadas.
If you're planning to make your own chili, be sure to make a batch of Trader Joe's cornbread to go with it. They've discontinued the sweet and hot jalapeno blue cornbread that I loved (maybe I was the only one?). But the regular cornbread is cake-like and delicious.
And why not serve your guacamole or Mexican dip with a little something different, perhaps sweet potato chips or parsnip chips. The parsnip chips are a tasty new addition to Trader Joes line-up, and they're full of fiber -- 5 grams per serving!
The dessert selection offers everything from frozen cheesecakes to key lime pie, but I'm partial to chocolate. If you don't have time to make your own dark chocolate brownies, whip up a batch of Trader Joes chocolate truffle brownies. You won't be disappointed.
